The site was just created in\u00a0<strong>2010<\/strong> and already has <a href=\"http:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/whereivebeen-logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-828\" title=\"whereivebeen-logo\" src=\"http:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/whereivebeen-logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"227\" \/><\/a><strong>9.7 million members<\/strong>! If you\u2019ve never heard of it, it\u2019s simply a great way to record and share your travels with others. And when I say <em>simply<\/em>, I do mean that it is extremely simple to use. \u2018<strong>Where I\u2019ve Been<\/strong>\u2019 automatically connects you with your Facebook account, making it easy to locate your friends and fill in your personal and travel information. The whole site is awesome (and <strong>FREE<\/strong>), but here are the some of the features that I found especially worthwhile!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Create a Map<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This is one of my favorite features, mostly because it is both visual <em>and<\/em> interactive. Everything is color coded and can also be made \u2018city-specific\u2019 rather than just \u2018country-specific.\u2019 Here on your own personal map, you are able to do three different actions:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Mark where you\u2019ve <em><strong>LIVED<\/strong><\/em><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/world-map-places-ive-been.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-829\" title=\"world map - places i've been\" src=\"http:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/world-map-places-ive-been-300x172.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"344\" height=\"238\" \/><\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Mark where you\u2019ve <strong><em>BEEN<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Mark where you <em><strong>WANT TO <\/strong><\/em><em><strong>GO<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>After you\u2019ve completed your map, \u2018<strong>Where I\u2019ve Been<\/strong>\u2019 then generates percentages showing you how much of the world you\u2019ve already traveled to and also how much of the world you one day hope to see. You can also compare your own map to your friends\u2019 maps, it\u2019s interesting and sometimes <em>surprising<\/em> to see where others have been!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Passport Info<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t worry, you aren\u2019t asked to enter your <em><strong>real<\/strong><\/em> passport information! Your \u2018passport\u2019 includes your name, current location, hometown, local airport, local currency, languages you speak\/wish to learn, travel interests, etc. Your \u2018passport\u2019 is basically your profile, allowing others to learn a little more about you and <a href=\"http:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/color-passports.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-831\" title=\"color passports\" src=\"http:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/color-passports-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/color-passports-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/color-passports-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/color-passports-450x300.jpg 450w, https:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/color-passports.jpg 1800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>connect with you based on interests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Forums<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018<strong>Where I\u2019ve Been<\/strong>\u2019 includes a section specifically for \u2018Travel Talk\u2019 where members can have conversations with each other. These conversations could be based on interests or geographic location, but mostly members use these forums to ask travel-specific questions and build off each others\u2019 responses. It\u2019s no surprise that <strong>Abroad101<\/strong> knows\/appreciates the <strong><em>value of peer advice<\/em><\/strong> and <strong>LOVES<\/strong> the idea of using that insight to help out one another!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Travel Guides<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Categorized by continents, these guides link you to information and advice from other members on the site. Everything is well organized and easily accessible, and <em><strong>all in one place<\/strong>!<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Scrapbook<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/scrapbook1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-834\" title=\"scrapbook\" src=\"http:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/scrapbook1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"234\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you have pictures from your trip (which I\u2019m <em>SURE<\/em> you do!), \u2018<strong>Where I\u2019ve <\/strong><strong>Been<\/strong>\u2019 allows you to create virtual scrapbooks to organize them. You can include a picture, a location on a map, and a detailed caption to tell others and remind yourself about the scene. These scrapbooks can be made available for everyone to see so you can <em>visually share<\/em> your experience with your friends and other travelers!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Trivia<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Every day there is a new <em><strong>trivia question<\/strong><\/em> testing your travel knowledge. These questions range from random fun facts to interesting cultural queries. What do you get for answering these questions, <strong>you ask<\/strong>? That leads me to the next feature!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Travel Bucks<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For every trivia question that you answer correctly, you are awarded 20 <strong>travel bucks<\/strong> (if incorrect, you are still given 1 travel buck for trying!). You can also gain travel bucks by interacting with different parts of the website. Now, although <a href=\"http:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/educate-children.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-845\" title=\"educate children\" src=\"http:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/educate-children-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"287\" height=\"191\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/educate-children-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/educate-children-449x300.jpg 449w, https:\/\/oldblog.studyabroad101.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/educate-children.jpg 553w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 287px) 100vw, 287px\" \/><\/a>these travel bucks aren\u2019t real money, you can still use them to do some good!
